A former employment attorney, Sara D. Newman left the law after the birth of her first child in order to help other women through the transition to motherhood. Since forming D is for Doula, Sara has worked with parents to assist them in infant feeding issues and provide them with guidance and support.
Sara believes that the most important part of her job is to empower parents to feel confident in their parenting choices. She has experience working with transgender, same sex, and polyamorous families and is adept at addressing their particular concerns, including induced lactation and chest-feeding.
Sara is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) in addition to being a Postpartum Certified Doula with DONA.
An experienced dog trainer and activist in the animal rescue community, Sara leads seminars on introducing established pets to a new baby in the home and helps parents to prevent jealousy between the canine and human babies. She has also used her knowledge of the law to assist women in making the transition back to work or in negotiating a change in working conditions. Sara is a member of DONA (Doulas of North America), NYLCA (New York Lactation Consultant Association). She is proficient in American Sign Language.
